The goal of LIVING 2012 is to guide and inform actions and programmes of people living with HIV networks and other stakeholders through an evidence-informed advocacy strategy developed by and for people living with HIV. With pursuit of the NHAS goals in the forefront of U.S. participants’ minds, AIDS 2012 will serve as a rich venue to learn about best practices—and overcoming challenges—from colleagues across the country and from other nations. 11:00AM – 12:30PM - Presentation MOACO105: An Evolving Concentrated Epidemic: Comparison of Socioeconomic, Behavioral and Biological Factors among Newly Diagnosed, Previously Diagnosed and HIV-Uninfected Black Men Who Have Sex with Men in 6 U.S. Cities (HPTN 061). 3:00PM – 4:30PM - Communicating Complex Science in 140 Characters: Social Media and the HIV Prevention Research Field In 2011, “HIV” was tweeted more than 800,000 times. Social media has become a major communications tool that cannot be ignored in planning communications strategies for HIV programs. Savvy HIV advocates can maximize their effectiveness by utilizing social media platforms including blogs, Facebook, and Twitter to communicate about programs and issues and to find out what others are saying. However, understanding these platforms and how advocates can best harness the power of social media to enact change can be challenging. This workshop will be informed from the results of a survey on HIV prevention communications and social media completed in early 2012. Participants will leave with concrete ideas for how to use social media to advance their issue or organization, a list of key HIV prevention research social media mavens to follow and a strategy for tracking what others are saying about relevant issues. 6:00PM – 8:30PM - AIDS in America Reception

Together, we will call for a declaration for the HIV community to use new media to move us towards an AIDS-free generation. 6:30PM – 7:30PM - Room for the Rest of Us: Young Black Gay Men & the Future of HIV The session will feature young Black gay men who will discuss the future of HIV/AIDS from their vantage point as emerging leaders in the HIV prevention and advocacy field. POSTER PRESENTATIONS Poster WEPE313: Differences in psychological, social, substance use and HIV sexual risk between urban Black Men who have Sex with Men Only (BMSMO) and Black Men who have Sex with Men and Women (BMSMW) Thursday, July 26th, 2012 11:00AM – 12:30PM – A Facilitated Discussion Between African, African-American, African-Caribbean Gay Men The National Black Gay Men’s Advocacy Coalition (NBGMAC) and the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC) will host a Leadership Institute on Biomedical HIV Prevention Research for Black gay and bisexual men during the International AIDS Conference to be held in Washington, DC in July. Participants will be required to conduct at least one educational activity for peers back in their local communities, further disseminating information on biomedical HIV prevention research. Support for these activities will be provided. Individuals who currently participate on Community Advisory Boards in cities where there are ongoing HIV prevention clinical trials, or who are interested in joining a local CAB, are encouraged to attend. Community Health Workers, other staff and leaders from programs serving Black gay and bisexual men are also welcome. There are 30 seats available for the Institute. Lunch and snacks are provided. REGISTRATION REQUIRED More information – Email, garydaffin@NBGMAC.org 6:30PM – 8:30PM - National HIV/AIDS Strategy Community Perspectives, sponsored by AIDS in American The Obama Administration has established a National HIV/AIDS Strategy that seeks to reduce new HIV infections, increase access to care and treatment, and reduce HIV-related health disparities in the US. National HIV advocacy leaders will offer their perspectives on how actions taken by the Administration and the US Congress are impacting implementation of the Strategy. Discussion will focus on the availability of resources to carry out prevention, care reform and the ability to carry out scientific-based prevention programs. The panel will explore whether the needs of specific populations most impacted by HIV are addressed. The role of the private sector and philanthropy in achieving the goals of the Strategy will be discussed.
